THURSDAY 25TH FEBRUARY

As we close the second month of 2021 this week has perhaps been the most exciting (although the bar for this is extremely low seeing as we are in the height of lockdown and the only other thing giving me serotonin is my morning coffee)

The reason for this week being unusually thrilling is because the camera I have been saving for and working two jobs for finally arrived.

I ordered the Sony A7R 2- a fantastic mirrorless camera which is super lightweight and gives stunning photos which require a hell of a lot less effort than my previous full frame which was a Canon 5D mark 2.

The 5D was a DSLR Canon camera which had quite a legacy with its dedication to the 5Ds continuous series and some photographers would argue that it was a 'Landmark' camera for the 21st century professional photography.

As far as Im concerned though I found it very bulky and at first not easily accessible with the controls being quite complicated. So making the switch to a mirrorless has been very pleasing indeed.

I took the first set of photos with this camera at the beginning of this week when we where asked to go out and take images. We weren't really given any brief - only just too take photos of what is around us.

I decided to take some In my backyard - because It was a dull February day the photos has quite a grungy, edgy feel even though the subjects were rather mundane. They turned out to have a crisp quality with my favourite being a photo of a peg basket. I appreciated the large aperture which resulted in a shallow depth of field meaning my photos had a out of focus background.

In the news this week the UK has been suggested by the Chief Medical officers to move from a level 5 to a level 4 alert- this means we should still remain strict with restrictions but its hopeful to know the NHS is less at risk for being overwhelmed than the start of lockdown number three.
